American Laurel Halo’s second album Chance of Rain (Hyperdub) is one of the best electronica records of 2013. Exactly what IDM should sound like, created with inspiring beats, industrial rhythms, shifting structures and jazz piano elements – Halo’s classical training is never far away. A record that knocks you off balance by a very inspiring producer.
Nonfiction by The Range (aka James Hinton) is another contestant for the most varied albums of 2013. Not really minimal, not really bass, not really IDM, … and yet all of them at the same time. Contemporary eclecticism – a nightmare for those who like to pigenohole.
