De Amerikaanse Laurel Halo zorgde met haar tweede album Chance of Rain (Hyperdub) voor een van de strafste elektronicaplaten van 2013. IDM in de juiste betekenis van het woord, met gelijke elementen inspirerende beats, industriële ritmes, hoekige structuren en jazzy piano – Halo is klassiek getraind en dat hoor je. Een plaat waar je zelden helemaal vat op krijgt van een bijzonder straf madam!
Resident Advisor over Chance of Rain (4,5*): "On Chance Of Rain, her second LP, she loses the vocals and lets her machines do the talking. It doesn't feel like a wholesale artistic reinvention, but it does show Halo edging away from the abstract nature of her early records towards something tougher and more immediate."
Pitchfork (7,4): "Craggy and hard as hell [...] but its consistent, nagging ability to knock you off balance is worth wrestling with."
Nonfiction van de Amerikaanse producer The Range is misschien wel de meest gevarieerde plaat in 2013 gemaakt. Niet echt minimal, niet echt bass, niet echt IDM,…simpelweg eigentijds eclecticisme. Een nachtmerrie voor hokjesdenkers!
Pitchfork (8,2 - Best New Music): "Nonfiction isn’t an album easily pegged to any scene or narrative currently circulating about electronic music [...] it might inspire, though, is a kind of passive, slowly gestating admiration [...] the kind that doesn’t surge like a fire but instead grows patiently, like a vine."
XLR8R (8/10): "These tracks add texture to the album without vying for the spotlight and make the sum bigger than its parts. Given that, and Hinton's ability to coalesce such a broad palette of sounds into the neat package presented here, it's certainly fitting that he's chosen to call himself The Range."
Vuurwerk is het clubby liveproject van het Brusselse DIY-collectief Run Tell Secrecy. Een nostalgisch post-dubstepgeluid die je doet terugdenken aan je zomerlief van weleer.
Het Gentse delvaux. vaart verder op de nostalgische golf van herinneringen aan vakanties in Zuid-Frankrijk met de Tour op de achtergrond. Broers Bram en Klaas Delvaux voorzien beeld en geluid.
