Cosmic Tissue (2014)

Cosmic Tissue shows several gymnasts practising on the trapeze. Simultaneously we hear about gravity, the body, the imagination and the universe. The video conveys a beautiful metaphor about the power of humanity to surpass its own capacity by means of its own imagination. Through building architectural utopias, for example, people continually strive for greater heights and in doing so surpass their own condition. In this way, the video touches on some of life’s essential questions. 

Emily Whitebread is an interdisciplinary artist researching how we attempt to establish an understanding of reality by categorising things. Time and space play a crucial role in this for her. Whitebread received her second Masters in ArtScience at The Royal Academy of Art in The Hague after completing a Masters in Art Writing at Goldsmiths University, London. This is the first time her work will be shown in Belgium.
