Global Rainbow (2014)

Yvette Mattern (US)

The ongoing monumental laser light installation Global Rainbow beams seven rays of high specification laser light, representing the spectrum of the seven colors of the rainbow. Yvette Mattern  was inspired by seeing an unusual rainbow in a beautiful spot at ‘Walden Pond’ in Massachusetts. Mattern aims to connect all demographics in a beautifully engaging experience and sees her work as a visual translation of hope and peace. During Artefact, Mattern’s work illuminates the Belgian skyline for the very first time, starting from the top of the IMEC building, an innovation center in Leuven, and reaching the end of the province of Vlaams-Brabant (North-East). It is estimated that the colored shafts of light can stretch up to 40 to 60 kilometers, depending on atmospheric conditions. Global Rainbow has been presented as a prelude to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Yvette Mattern is a New York and Berlin based visual artist whose work has an emphasis on video and film, which frequently intersects performance, public art and sculpture.
