iMac Music (2012)

iii - Jonathan Reus (US)

Jonathan Reus uses old iMac G3 computers in iMac Music. He creates a sonic and visual experience by touching the electronic innards of the computer both directly and with probes. The image from the desktop of the computer is projected onto a screen. The interference caused by touching the internal components of the computer creates surreal, impressionistic images. The scene looks like the anatomical dissection of a body. This idea is amplified by the performance location in the old STUK Auditorium. At a certain point the body of the artist becomes a part of the circuit, causing an additional source of interference.

Jonathon Reus is an American researcher who focuses on the interpretation of technology, in search of a radically materialistic and embodied approach. His performances, installations and workshops can be seen as autonomous artworks, live experiments and fundamental art-scientific researches.

Reus is a member of the iii (Instrument Inventor Initiative) from The Hague, and member of the International Soundlings Sound Artists Network. He performs, teaches, and has exhibited his work in Europe, North America and Asia. He’s currently based in The Hague and Amsterdam.
