Origin Of Species (2008)

Ben Rivers (UK)

Origin of the Species is an experimental short movie about S., a Darwinian theorist. He is a man of inventions, of science and of solitude. He sees the world as familiar and alien at the same time. The film begins as a portrait of S., who has been obsessed with Darwin’s work for much of his life. Origin of the Species charts the beginnings of time, through the descent of man into an uncertain future – all shot throughout the different seasons in the garden of S., who lives in the wilderness and builds contraptions.

Ben Rivers is an experimental film maker. He has exhibited in many international film festivals, winning numerous awards. His work explores themes such as wilderness and freedom and has gained increasing recognition in the past few years.
