Pleisto-scene Artefact (2014)
Geert Mul made an adaptation of his special installation Pleisto-Scene Artefact. In 2013 Mul plastered the Tschumi pavilion (Groningen) from top to bottom with printed, transparent film featuring images that relate to the transition from fossil energy to renewable energy. From the inside the print is illuminated with LED lights that change color permanently, making images appear and disappear depending on the color.
This installation is based on the most elementary technology for showing images: pigment and light. It does not involve any kind of video projection, and is therefore sustainable. Pleisto-Scene Artefact will play with the thought that the image is pre-historic by definition, according to Geert Mul, as history only began when man started to write code in a linear fashion.
For almost 20 years Geert Mul has been exploring the possibilities of generating visual poetry by recombining images from collections and databases in videos, photographs and installations.
