Mouse On Mars + Lydia Ainsworth + Mittland och Leo

Sommige bands doorstaan de tand des tijds: Düsseldorfer Andi Toma en Keulenaar Jan St. Werner vormen al 21 jaar Mouse on Mars. Door hun lak aan comformiteit vonden ze zichzelf meermaals opnieuw en werden ze een monument  binnen de elektronische muziek. Om deze 'coming of age' te vieren maakten ze samen met bewonderende collega’s als Modeselektor, Matthew Herbert, Tortoise, Machinedrum, … een dubbelalbum, 21 Again (Monkeytown). Happy Birthday, Mouse on Mars - en als je 21 wordt mag het al iets meer zijn.

De Canadese singer-songwriter en componiste Lydia Ainsworth werkte de voorbije 3 jaar aan filmmuziek en multimediaprojecten. Pendelend tussen Toronto en Brooklyn schreef ze met het bejubelde Right from Real een album vol prachtige popsongs. Haar invloeden variëren van Verdi’s Requiem naar Bulgaarse koorzangen naar noise. Die verrassende kruisbestuivingen aangekleed met stemsamples en strijkersarrangementen leiden tot een uniek minimalistisch muzikaal ontwerp. Neo-klassiek meets een coole 80’s sound, Grimes meets Julia Holter… simpelweg buitengewoon.

Optimists is het langspeeldebuut van het Antwerpse synthpopduo Mittland och Leo. Joke Leonare  en Milan Warmoeskerken (Flying Horseman en Condor Gruppe) brengen herinneringen boven van Stereolab naar krautrock over soundtracks van zombiefilms tot kermisorgels. Maar het is gewoon ook steengoed zoals het is.
