Grand mas Laboratory is a stunning tapestry in which Laure Prouvost sketches an image of grandma’s nature lab. The work connects with ecofeminist themes that recur in several of Prouvost’s works in which a more experiential form of knowing and understanding nature is central and the boundaries between self and the world become porous. The figurative depiction of this abandoned laboratory in nature seems 'morphed' in several places, as if the elements in the image distort or melt away, sliding into another reality. Prouvost's characteristic play with language and meaning is present in the different text bits that further guide your understanding of the image. Shed a light for instance, refers simultaneously to a place and an action; the shed giving access to experiment, discovery and understanding.

Since 2014, Prouvost has been creating woven works that are often linked to a video work or sculpture. For instance, Grand mas Laboratory finds its echo in the video Shed A Light (2018) in which Prouvost finds a forgotten dystopian biolab in an abandoned overgrown garden; a beautiful film about the transformation of things, constant metamorphosis and the celebration of femininity.
