Nooit Meer Alleen

Ephameron

With Nooit Meer Alleen, Ephameron goes in search of a (visual) language to capture different facets of motherhood at the start of the 21st century, based on her own experiences and testimonies from others. The changing relationships between mother / father / child are made tangible in several key moments, such as mutual dependency after birth, traumatic experiences, language learning and ultimately detachment. The visual symbolism of, among other things, the circle and water are central.

As part of this doctoral project at LUCA School of Arts, Ephameron is developing a series of 17 consecutive images for Alone Together in residency at STUK and Cas-Co. From February 13th onwards, one of these images is placed daily on a life-size billboard in the Grasmushof Park. Passers-by can gradually follow the story that slowly unfolds during the Artefact exhibition and festival.

Ephameron
°1979, Leuven, Belgium

Het werk van Ephameron reports on a sensitive side of the world, and portrays the intimate and unobtrusive dramas that together form a human life. White space, strong line work and a muted color palette form the visual thread throughout her oeuvre. Her experimental graphic novel Wij twee samen (Oogachtend, 2015) talks about her father's loss of dementia. At the end of 2019 the work was translated into English by Penn State University Press.

Ephameron publishes illustrations in a.o. De Standaard, De Tijd, L’Echo and de Volkskrant, and is active as a curator for Grafixx, the annual Antwerp festival for graphic arts. She obtained a masters degrees in Fine Arts and Illustrative Design, and teaches in the field of Graphic Storytelling at LUCA School of Arts. She is currently working on a doctorate in the arts.
